    He drew over hundreds of pictures on empty advertising panels on the subway walls, which promoted graffiti tagging (1980-1985).
    He got in trouble with the law over his subway etchings, but he did not serve serious time, since he used erasable chalk.
    He dropped out of the Ivy School of Professional Arts in Pittsburgh after two semesters (1976).
    He had very little interest of becoming a commercial graphics artist.
    He eventually opened a retail store that sold items that bear his artistic images (1986).
    He not only painted children's pictures, but he also painted pornographic pieces for adults.

    His subway art paved the way for shaping his 'Body Tracing' art form.
    His became friends with many popular musicians as well with fellow artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat.
    He created more than fifty public works between 1982-89; many were created for charity.
    His famous 'Crack is Wack' mural was a landmark along New York's FDR Drive (1986).
    He established the Keith Haring Foundation to provide funding and imagery to charitable AIDS organizations.
    He collaborated with William S. Burroughs, making paintings for Burroughs' 'Apocalypse' and 'The Valley' short stories (1988).
    He painted over the Berlin Wall (1986).
    His children's collaboration (a large painting of the Statue of Liberty with writing and drawings from kids) was used as a background prop for Paul McCartney's 'Freedom' performance at Super Bowl XXXVI, the first post-9/11 Super Bowl (2002).
