Why he might be annoying:

His first paintings didn't sell well, which led to one critic calling him 'the hungriest artist in California'.
He is often mistakenly associated with Pop Art because of the subject matter of his paintings despite painting from life instead of the media.
He criticized Andy Warhol's paintings, calling them 'flat' and 'mechanical'.
His first marriage to Patricia Patterson ended in divorce. (1959)
One of his daughters has the odd name Twinka.

Why he might not be annoying:

He prefers to focus on painting for its own sake rather than commit to a certain style.
His art style is more personal and lively than those of his contemporaries.
His use of bright colors in his paintings enhances the allure of the subjects, particularly those of food.
Despite his fame in the art scene, his modest public profile allows him to hang out in public places without attracting unwanted attention.
He broke his back while playing football during his junior year of high school.
His son Paul died of colon cancer. (June 19, 2010)
