Basketball Player
He was a journeyman player for much of his career.
He resembles a little fellow Laker Lamar Odom.
Like teammate Horace Grant, he had a diva attitude when he got into a little feud with the Celtics management over his contract with Italian basketball team Il Messagero Roma.
The ensuing case Boston Celtics v. Brian Shaw was included in many law school contract classes.
He, Grant and Shaquille O'Neal were swept in the 1995 NBA Finals by the Houston Rockets.
Like many of the Lakers players in the 2000-2001 championship roster, he was an NBA player desperately seeking to earn a championship ring via jumping the Laker bandwagon.
He grew up in Oakland, California with future NBA stars Antonio Davis, Greg Foster, Jason Kidd and Gary Payton.
He was named part of the 1989 NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
He played in the gold medal winning 1986 USA team of the FIBA World Championship.
In one Miami Heat game against the Milwaukee Bucks, he scored a then-record of 10 successful out of 15 three point shots.
Both of his parents were killed in an auto accident in Nevada (July 1993).
As with veteran players such as Horace Grant, Greg Foster, and Ron Harper, Shaw proved to be a valuable mentor for rising Laker stars such as Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher.
He also was teammates with Robert Horry who played on the 1995 Rockets team that swept Shaw when he played for the Magic.
He was teammates with Shaq and Horace Grant on two different teams.
