He was relatively unknown to the public until 'Lord of the Rings' came out.
He spent over a year on the 'Fellowship of the Ring' score alone, often making New Line cinema angry that they had to keep delaying the release.
He looks like a cross between Brian Linehan and Leonard Nimoy.

Since 1979, he has scored all but one of director David Cronenberg's theatrical films.
He has scored two of the three sequels that won Best Picture, 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'Return of the King.'
He began his career playing in a horn section of a modestly popular band called Lighthouse.
