He was a lawyer.
At fifty, he married 22-year old Margaret Sinclair (1971).
In Parliament he told an opponent 'fuck you,' but later claimed he said 'fuddle duddle.'
He gave the finger to those who protested his cuts in poverty assistance.
He used the War Measures Act of 1949 to put all of Canada under martial due to two murders in Quebec.
His marriage lasted six years before they separated; they divorced seven years later.
In his bachelor years, he dated Barbra Streisand and Bianca Jagger.
He was, in actuality, a short man whose reported height was only five feet and five inches.

He lead the fight against the Quebec separatist movement.
He was known for his flamboyance and charisma.
His son Michel died in an avalanche in 1998.
Canadian journalists named him the top news maker of the 20th century.
He had prostate cancer.
