    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Birth name was John Clarke
Directed the films 'Whistle Down the Wind' (1961), 'The L-Shaped Room' (1962), 'Seance on a Wet Afternoon' (1964), 'King Rat' (1965), 'The Wrong Box' (1966), 'The Whisperers' (1967), 'Deadfall' (1968), 'The Raging Moon' (1971), 'The Stepford Wives' (1975), 'International Velvet' (1978) and 'The Naked Face' (1984)

Acted in the films 'Wheel of Fire' (1953) 'An Inspector Calls' (1954), 'The Colditz Story' (1955) and 'The Guns of Navarone' (1961)
Father of TV presenter Emma Forbes
Named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the arts (2004)
    BAFTA Lifetime Achievment Award (2007)
He turned down a chance to direct the first James Bond film, 'Dr. No' (1962), because he thought it was going to be 'just another bang bang movie.'
He nepotistically cast wife Nanette Newman in several of his fims.
He feuded with screenwriter William Goldman during the making of 'The Stepford Wives,' and was really ticked off years later when his friend Richard Attenborough hired Goldman to rewrite Forbes' script for 'Chaplin.'
Ironically, the film he is best remembered for, 'The Stepford Wives,' is one of the least typical of his style.
He was married to Nanette Newman for 57 years until his death.
He worked well with actors, saying 'Everything should be subordinate to the performance. That's why I'm not highly regarded in the more esoteric cinema magazines.'
He served as president of the National Youth Theatre.
Kenneth Branagh called him 'a superb British filmmaker of astonishing range.'
