Introduced linear perspective to painting

Why he might be annoying:

Little is known about his private life.
He was originally a goldsmith and took up architecture only after losing a competition to design the doors for the Florence Baptistry.
He had a brief foray into shipbuilding that ended when the boat he designed sank on its maiden voyage.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an early practitioner of urban planning, positioning several of his buildings in relation to nearby squares and streets for maximum visibility.
To build the dome of the Cathedral of Florence, he invented a new hoisting machine to raise the bricks needed.
He was called the Father of the Renaissance.
