Why he might be annoying:

Two days after his divorce to Eileen (who he was married to for 27 years), he married Majel Barrett (their marriage lasted almost 22 years, till he died).
He was known to have cheated many times on his first wife.
He was a bigamist, marrying Majel in August 1969, but was not legally divorced, so he remarried her in December when the divorce was finalized (1969).
He rejected his family's Christian beliefs as a child.

Why he might not be annoying:

He envisioned a non racist world that would survive its Earthly problems and reach to the stars.
His idea for the prime directive, of non interference, is based on the Jewish golden rule, of not doing unto others, that you would not want done unto you.
While piloting a Pan Am plane that crashed over Syria, he supervised the crash site and rescue (1947).
Star Trek was the first televised mature science fiction show with reoccurring characters.
