Why he might be annoying:

He lead 91 of the first 101 laps in the 1988 Indy 500 before the car drifted wide and brushed the wall taking him out of the race.
He broke his arm in a crash at Indy in 1989.
He retired after breaking his pelvis in a crash at Michigan Speedway in 1995, ending his comeback after being out of CART since 1993.
He had an unsuccessful Formula 1 career before going to CART.
He dropped out of the University of Kentucky.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made one of the greatest saves in Indy history during the 1986 Indy 500, after spinning out of the lead from teammate Mario Andretti. He did a complete 360 spin and kept going and came back to win the race.
He won the last race he ran for Penske Racing in 1990.
He appeared in the TV Show Miami Vice in 1987.
He returned later in the 1989 season from a broken arm to win two races.
In 2002, he was involved in a driver search to find a young American race car driver for Red Bull to sponsor in Formula 1.
