The Resume

    (March 20, 1937- )
    Born in Honolulu, Hawaii
Best known for writing the 'Anastasia and Sam Krupnik' series and 'Number the Stars'
Other works include 'A Summer to Die,' 'Autumn Street,' 'Rabble Starkey,' 'Silent Boy,' and 'Gossamer'

Why she might be annoying:

Initially her parents wanted to name her 'Sena' in honor of her Norwegian grandmother.
Her grandmother, however, disliked it and said that she should have an American first name since she was born in Hawaii.
    She was a middle child.
She attended Brown University for two years only to drop out after marrying at age 19.
She said that she is a Christian, but not so religious as to have a 'favorite psalm.'
Despite being mostly a children's author, a handful of her novels are dark and depressing.
She divorced her husband Donald in 1977.
Her first 'Krupnik' novel, 'Anastasia Krupnik,' was listed on the American Library Association's 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990–2000 because of its references to beer, Playboy magazine, and suicide.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her older sister's death inspired her to write 'A Summer to Die' and 'Number the Stars.'
She earned her English literature degree at the University of Southern Maine.
Her novels 'Number the Stars' and 'The Giver' were awarded the prestigious Newbery Medal.
Her son died in a fighter plane crash in 1995.
Her 'Krupnik' book series is a lighthearted break from her darker novels.
She wrote on her blog, 'I am a grandmother now. For my own grandchildren - and for all those of their generation - I try, through writing, to convey my passionate awareness that we live intertwined on this planet and that our future depends upon our caring more, and doing more, for one another.'
