The Resume

Why they might be annoying:

Five words: The Curse of the Bambino.
    Two more words: Bucky Dent.
    Two more words: Bill Buckner.
Still more two words: Babe Ruth.
They live in the shadows of the New York Yankees.
Many Red Sox players have become frustrated with the team's lack-of-success and have left the team to join the New York Yankees.
The Curse of the Bambino was never more evident than in the 1986 World Series when Bill Buckner let Mookie Wilson's ground ball slip through his legs.
Wade Boggs' number will never be retired by the Boston Red Sox simply because he ended his career with a different team, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Had they not sold Babe Ruth, we might be referring to them as the greatest franchise in sports history seeing as they had won 5 out of the first 12 World Series' and would've probably won more had they not had the curse over their heads.
They lost to the Yankees 14-11 setting a 9 inning game longevity record at 4 hours and 45 minutes (August 18, 2006).

Why they might not be annoying:

Fenway Park, along with Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field, is one of most loved sports stadiums in America.
They started the early 1900's with Cy Young as their ace and ended the 1900's with Pedro Martinez as their ace.
Their rivalry with the Yankees is the best and most meaningful one in sports.
Ted Williams spent his whole playing career with the Red Sox.
They have one of the best innings in baseball history when they scored 17 runs against the Detroit Tigers (1953).
Since 1967, they've averaged one million or more people in attendance per year.
Carlton Fisk's 12th inning World Series game 6 home run is one of the most memorable moments in baseball history (1975).
The first two 20-strike out games (by a single pitcher) in baseball history were thrown by Roger Clemens when he was with the Red Sox.
They try to make a commitment to winning year-in and year-out.
They hired Theo Epstein as their GM (2002), making him the youngest GM in baseball history.
They scored a major league record 10 runs before recording their first out and went on to beat the Florida Marlins, 21-5 (June 27, 2003). In that game they tied the A.L. mark of 14 runs in the first inning.
Their best offensive outing was when they beat the St. Louis Browns, 29-4 on 28 hits (June 8, 1950).
They're the first baseball team to come back from 0-3 deficit in the playoffs (2004 AL Championship against the New York Yankees).
