Why Gatineau, Quebec might be annoying:

The area's settlers considered the region a mosquito infested wilderness, but opted to settle there anyway.
The last remaining building from the original settlement was destroyed in a fire a century later (1900).
It was the site of a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II.
Its downtown core decayed significantly during the 1970's and 1980's.
It has extremely hot humid summers and harsh cold winters.
Due to being located directly across the river from Ottawa, it is mistaken to be a twin city.
Since it is in a federal capital region, it is the equivalent of what Arlington, Virginia is to Washington, D.C..
Similar to what Arlington is in the U.S. Capital Region, it is home to many of the Government of Canada's agencies and ministries.
Its economy primarily relies on the federal government jobs as a result.
Some residents of the Capital region think both the city and Ottawa should secede from their respective provinces and become a capital district area like Washington, D.C. is.
After being elected as the leader of the Official Opposition of Canada, Bloc Quebecois leader Lucien Bouchard opted to rent an apartment here, instead of live at Stornoway on the Ottawa side out of protest to the federal government (1993-97).
It was forced to surrender its original name of Hull, following the amalgamation due to the fact the Quebec government preferred a French sounding name for the newly amalgamated community.

Why Gatineau, Quebec might not be annoying:

It is the hub centre of Quebec's Outauois region.
It is home to some picturesque scenery as a result of its location along the Ottawa River.
The view of the Ottawa River from the city was featured on the Canadian $1 bill, prior to it being taken out of circulation.
It was home to the oldest European colonial settlement in the Capital region.
It was a major hub for the timber trade along the Ottawa River during the 1800's.
It is home to the War Never Again monument, which is located in the downtown.
The Canadian Museum of History is located here.
It is a popular spot for Francophone goverment workers, who work in Ottawa to live.
Despite being part of the National Capital Region, it has a separate identity from Ottawa.
