TV Network

The Resume

    (October 1, 1992- )
Network originally devoted to reruns of classic cartoons acquired by Ted Turner, including Warner Brothers, MGM & Hanna/Barbera
First show using a revamped cartoon character from the past and formatting it into a new series was 'Space Ghost Coast to Coast (1994)'
First original cartoon made exclusively for the network was 'Dexter's Laboratory (1996)'
Other early exclusive cartoons include 'Johnny Bravo (1997),' 'Cow & Chicken (1997)' and 'The Powerpuff Girls (1998)'

Why Cartoon Network might be annoying:

    It is one-dimensional programming.
It has done a flip-flop from its inception, starting with showing only classic reruns to eliminating nearly all classic viewing.
Loony Tunes was completely taken out of its programming in 2004.
All of its cartoons created between 1996-98 have been canceled.
In 2000 'Sheep in the Big City' was heavily promoted as an adult oriented toon along the the lines of 'The Bullwinkle Show.' It lasted less than one season (27 episodes).
It will at times take cartoons, such as the case with 'Samarai Jack (2001-04),' and yank them off the air without official explanation for its demise.
It has been alleged that 'Time Squad (2001-02)' was canceled because it mocked President George W. Bush, stating he was obsessed with 'a giant ball 'o twine.'

Why Cartoon Network might not be annoying:

It has gone from strictly kid oriented programming to 'children of all ages' viewership.
The classics have been spun-off into their own cartoon program network called 'Boomerang' (catch phrase: 'it's all coming back to you').
'Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane got his start on the network in 1996, creating 'Larry and Steve,' a fat doofus and a talking dog that were prototypes for Peter Griffin and Brian.
He also sold the rights to the network for airing of 'Family Guy' reruns.
    Two words: 'Adult Swim.'
This includes 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force,' a staple since 2000, 'Sealab 2021,' 'Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law,' and 'Robot Chicken,' as well as 'Futurama' and 'Family Guy' reruns.
It created 'Toonami,' a block of Japanese anime cartoons targeted for teens/young adults.
It has made vast amounts of money for itself and its cartoon creators from DVD sales.
It has helped to keep thousands of animators employed.
    It's pure escapism entertainment.
