The Resume

    (1977-1983)
Born in The Bronx, New York
Members were Sha-Rock (Sharon Green), Jazzy Jeff (Jeff Miree), K.K. Rockwell (Kevin Smith), Lil Rodney C (Rodney Stone), and Keith Keith (Keith Caesar)
Recorded the singles 'Rappin' and Rockin' the Joint' (1979), 'That's the Joint' (1980), 'Do You Want to Rock (Before I Let Go)' (1982), and 'Feel It' (1983)

Why they might be annoying:

Why not the Funky 5? Or was the '+1' insufficiently funky to be included with the others?
Actually, since they performed with two DJs (DJ Breakout and DJ Baron), maybe they should have been the Funky 4 + 1 + 2.
Their Jazzy Jeff is not the one who became famous by teaming up with the Fresh Prince.
Sugarhill Records boss Sylvia Robinson kept them from accepting an offer to be the opening act on Blondie's 1982 North American tour.

Why they might not be annoying:

They were the first successful mixed gender rap act.
Sha-Rock was not presented as a sex symbol but as an equal of the male rappers in the group.
They were the first hip hop act to appear on national TV, when they were the musical guest on Saturday Night Live (February 14, 1981).
Critic Robert Christgau named 'That's the Joint' the best single of the 1980s.
