    It is a haven for retirees who want to escape winter.
    It averages a high of over 100 degrees during summer.
    Because it has such a huge seasonal agricultural workforce, unemployment shoots up off season.
    Its unemployment rate is often higher than 20 percent and it exceeded 30 percent twice in the 1990's.
    Because it is so close to the Mexican border, it has an illegal immigration problem.
    A tropical storm left 12,000 out of power (1997).

Why Yuma, Arizona might not be annoying:

    Its unemployment rate dips quite a bit during the picking season (although it is usually still pretty high).
    They have numerous great Mexican restaurants.
    It has a growing population despite its problems.
    It is a pretty decent place to live if you hate cold weather and can find a job.
    It is the biggest city in Arizona outside of Phoenix and Tucson.
    It was recognized by Guinness as the sunniest city in the world.
