Why he might be annoying:

    He dropped out of school at age fourteen.
    He said about the song that became his breakthrough hit, ‘I thought that ‘S.O.B.’ was the weakest track on the album. But what do I know?’
    He wrote ‘S.O.B.’ about having the dt’s (delirium tremens) during alcohol withdrawal.
    He celebrated the end of a tour opening for the Lumineers with fireworks and skinny dipping.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He learned to play the drums at age seven and taught himself guitar as a teen.
    NPR declared, ‘The born-again spirit of vintage soul music pour[s] out of the man.’
    He puts on high-energy live shows, with the Los Angeles Times noting that he ‘often surprises first-time audiences with nimble dance moves that would make James Brown proud.’
    He founded the Marigold Project to fund organizations working for social justice and economic reform.
