Why he might be annoying:

He shares a name with the Garfield cartoonist.
Before 'Dallas,' his career largely consisted of B-movie westerns.
He called himself 'the poor man's John Wayne.'
His deteriorating health forced the premature wrap-up of a couple of 'Dallas' storylines.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was considered such a natural fit for Jock Ewing that the producers of 'Dallas' did not require him to audition for the part.
His only child, daughter Tara Davis, died in car cash at age 16 (1970).
He was particularly close to 'Dallas' co-star Victoria Principal, who resembled Tara; he was buried with pictures of his daughter and Principal in his pocket.
He continued acting after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, wearing a wig to cover his hair loss from chemotherapy.
