The Resume

    (1953-August 4, 1999)
    Resided at Urapunga Station, Australia
Bushman stranded in a remote part of the Northern Territory for two months in 1977
Wrote the book (followed by the documentary) 'To Fight the Wild' about his ordeal (1986)
His survival was the inspiration for the 1986 move hit 'Crocodile Dundee,' with Paul Hogan portraying him
Died in a shootout with police near Darwin, Australia at age 46

Why he might be annoying:

He claimed he was 'not lost, but stuck' - and told reporters, 'You must believe me, it was not that big a deal.'
He wrote that the two months of loneliness didn't bother him, but he did 'miss the company of women' (he was divorced).
His story was greatly exaggerated with the film, though he DID sleep in his sleeping bag at 5-star hotels during a book signing tour and WAS mystified by the bidet.
He blamed the Northern Territory government for not giving him proper compensation after losing 3,000 head of cattle due to disease.
Motive was never established on the day of his rage, but before the shootout he had attacked two local residents, including shooting off the finger of one.
His shot that killed a cop was a lucky one - the bullet pierced the seam of the officer's bulletproof vest.

Why he might not be annoying:

While fishing on the Fitzmaurice River, a croc overturned his boat and his two month ordeal began.
The only items he could salvage were a rifle, a knife, an oar and his two dogs.
He successfully shot wild game and found fresh water for eight weeks until he was rescued by a four man cattle droving party.
'Crocodile Dundee' was a huge international smash hit movie (with two sequels).
He never received a penny from the revenue the movie generated.
His rampage may have continued but the partner of the cop shot dead returned fire, killing him instantly.
