Hockey Player

The Resume

    (December 7, 1897-June 17, 1979)
    Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Birth name was Ivan Wilfred Johnson
Defenseman for the New York Rangers (1926-37) and the New York Americans (1937-38)

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname had racial motives, as some fans assumed he was Chinese, due to his facial appearance.
He didn't start playing organized hockey until he was in his 20's and didn't reach the NHL until his 30's.
He often would grin or smirk when he made contact with other players.
He threatened to quit the Rangers if the team didn't give him a substantial contract offer.
As a linesman, he once bodychecked a player, forgetting he was an official.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served for the Canadian Armed Forces in World War I.
He worked as an electrician, prior to pursuing a hockey career.
He was a member of the Rangers first two Stanley Cup championship teams.
He was considered a solid defender by hockey pundits, which is surprising given the fact he didn't start playing until he was in his early 20's.
He went back to working blue collar jobs following the end of his playing career.
