The Resume

    (July 20, 1864-April 18, 1931)
    Born in Karlbo, Sweden
Birth name was Erik Axel Eriksson
Poetry collections include 'Songs of Wilderness and of Love' (1895), 'Fridolin's Song' (1898), 'Fridolin's Pleasure Garden' (1901), and 'The Horn of Autumn' (1927)
Member of the Swedish Academy (1904-31) and the Nobel Committee (1907-31)
Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature

Why he might be annoying:

He changed his last name to distance himself from his father, who had been convicted of forgery.
he was rejected for military service due to poor eyesight (1888).
He was dismissed from a teaching position after an affair with the rector's wife.
He fathered three children out of wedlock with his housekeeper before marrying her.
Alfred Nobel's will had specified that the Nobel Prizes were to be given to living people, but he was awarded one posthumously.

Why he might not be annoying:

While he was working on a newspaper to pay his way through the University of Uppsala, his writing so impressed the editor that he collected money for Karlfeldt to resume his education.
He had been offered the Nobel Prize earlier, but declined, feeling it would be inappropriate to give the Prize to an author who was also a member of the awarding committee (1918).
He also felt Scandinavians had been overrepresented among Nobel Prize winners.
