Military Personnel

The Resume

    (1742-September 12, 1819)
    Prussian Marshall
    Prince of Wahstatt
Fought against Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo (1815)
Honorary citizen of Rostock and Berlin

Why he might be annoying:

He entered the military in Sweden at age 14 and remained most of his life (1756).
    He was a gambler.
    He drank heavily.
    He was a womanizer.
For these reasons, he was passed up for promotion in Frederick the Great's army of 'gentlemen officers.'
When he resigned for these reasons, Frederick replied, 'Captain Blücher can take himself to the Devil' (1773).
He lived the life of a farmer until Frederick the Great died, then re-enlisted (1786).
    He loved doing cavalry charges.
He was frequently matched up against Napoleon and was beaten badly several times in the French advance into Prussia and across Europe.
He frequently argued for universal service in the military of all Prussians and an extension of the military.
His greatest military achievement didn't come until he was seventy years old.
He came out of retirement to fight against Napoleon once again at Waterloo.
His crazy cavalry charges and his extremely erratic behavior lead many to believe he was bat shit insane.

Why he might not be annoying:

What he lacked as a military tactician he made up for by being fearless.
He was known as 'Marshal Forward' for always being at the front, leading the charge against the enemy.
He was captured during the early stages of the Seven Years' War by the Prussians and they were so impressed that they offered him a place in their military (1760).
He had absolutely no refinement and was not a saint by any means, and that endeared him to his troops.
He would strike fear into the enemy by his appearance on the battlefield.
He was often times unpredictable and a rumor went around that he was pregnant with an elephant.
His timely arrival at Waterloo with Prussian cavalry turned the tide of the battle and secured Napoleon's defeat.
He retained his wild battlefield persona well into his 70's.
He was admired as a hero by the allied countries.
