The Resume

    (November 19, 1909-November 11, 2005)
    Born in Vienna, Austria
Business consultant, often called 'The Father of Modern Management'
Wrote almost 40 books, including: 'The Practice of Management' (1954), 'Peter Drucker on the Profession of Management' (1998) and 'Managing the Non-Profit Organization: Practices and Principles' (1990)
Taught at Bennington College (1942-1949), New York University (1950-1971), Claremont College (1971-2005/his death)
Earned a doctorate in International and Public Law from Frankfurt University
Promulgated the concept of management by objectives
Received 25 honorary doctorates, many from foreign countries that he had helped.

Why he might be annoying:

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.
His concept of management by objectives has never really worked out in the real world.
He predicted that the financial center of the United States would move from New York to Washington DC.
He believed that unpaid volunteers working at non-profits should be held to the same standards as paid employees.

Why he might not be annoying:

His work has helped many companies and foreign countries improve themselves.
Like his fellow management theorists, Fred David and Edward Demming, it's not his fault the Japanese listened to him and American companies didn't.
His theories were very person-centered, he stated that the purpose of a company was to create a customer and that the most valuable resource of a company was its people.
The Nazis burned his books and he had to flee Austria to England and later the United States.
He was married almost seventy years!
He hated meetings and wrote against them.
He said a CEO should not make more than 20 times the pay of the lowest paid worker.
He never retired and was literally working right up until his death.
