Why he might be annoying:

An early job working in a sweater warehouse lasted a year before he was fired. ('My enthusiasm for sweaters was insufficient.')
He does not allow anyone into the room where he writes his books -- except for his two dogs.
He said he rarely draws on his own life for ideas because 'my personal experiences are kind of boring. I have to make up what I put into my books.'

Why he might not be annoying:

The authors who first inspired him were J.D. Salinger and Kurt Vonnegut.
'Holes' won a National Book Award in the Young People's Literature category and a Newbery Medal as the year's 'most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.'
His publisher noted, 'Louis was discovered by the children who loved his books. There are books adults push on kids -- this was completely the other way around.'
