Why he might be annoying:

    He tried to defend Nixon's Supreme Court nominee G. Harold Carswell against charges of being unqualified with the plea, 'Even if he were mediocre, there are a lot of mediocre judges and people and lawyers. They are entitled to a little representation, aren't they, and a little chance? We can't have all Brandeises, Frankfurters, and Cardozos.'
    We're sure it's just a coincidence that the three Justices he named as ones you wouldn't want a Supreme Court comprised entirely of happened to be Jewish. (And at a time when there had only been four Jewish Supreme Court Justices.)
    He ran unsuccessfully for Senate Minority Leader (1969).
    He claimed Title IX, the ban on gender discrimination in educational institutions receiving federal money, would kill college football.
    He dismissed Watergate as a partisan witch hunt.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the son of Czech immigrants.
    He was married to Victoria Kanci for 64 years.
    He voted for the Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1960, 1964, and 1968.
    He was a leader in the passage of the Omnibus Crime and Safe Streets Act (1968).
    He gets a shout out at the end of Ogden Edsl' s novelty song 'Dead Puppies.'
