They featured a Delores and a Dolores.
Alston sang lead on their first hits, but she suffered stage fright and was replaced in concerts by Brooks.
'He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)' was banned by radio.
Their only number one hit, 'He's a Rebel' was actually recorded by Darlene Love and the Blossoms.
Nine of the 12 songs on their second album, 'He's a Rebel,' had appeared on their first album, 'Twist Uptown.'
Their career lost its momentum when producer Phil Spector shifted his attention to the Ronettes.

They were the first artists to have hits for Spector's independent Phillies label.
Their records epitomized both the Girl Group sound and Spector's 'Wall of Sound.'
After breaking up, Brooks joined the original cast of 'Hair,' performing the song 'Aquarius.'
Kennebrew won a legal battle with Spector over ownership of the Crystals name.
