Why he might be annoying:

He made his touring cap (a variant of a beret) very popular.
He milked his name and started a golf-equipment company.
His father committed suicide when he was nine.
He practiced liberally, and as a result, had very few friends.
He was known to be rude and cocky when playing with amateurs or lesser pros.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was left handed, but played golf right handed.
He was in a near-fatal car accident in 1949, in which he received a broken collarbone, a smashed rib, a pelvis fracture and a broken ankle.
He came back the next year to win the US Open.
Despite playing a limited schedule after his car accident, he still won 13 more tournaments, including several majors.
Even though he had tremendous pain in his legs after his car accident, he never asked to use a cart.
He won the only British Open he ever played in (1953).
