Why he might be annoying:

His WWE Heavyweight Title reign lasted less than a month.
He came to the WWE during the Iran Contra and heavily praised his home country, which made the audience go nuts.
After his usual tag team partner, Nikolai Volkoff, would sing the Russian National Anthem, his catch phrase would be, ‘Iran, number one, Russia, number one, USA' and he'd spit on the ground.
He had a horrible voice and his character would also insist on singing the Iranian National Anthem.
He was arrested in 1987 for possession of marijuana and cocaine.
He made a comeback to the WWE in 1991 as Colonel Mustafa, Sgt. Slaughter's comrade when he was an Iraqi sympathizer; the comeback wasn't a huge success.

Why he might not be annoying:

His title win over Bob Backlund, though controversial, was a huge shock that fans talked about for decades.
He lost the title to Hulk Hogan, giving the birth of ‘Hulkamania.'
He and Nikolai Volkoff have the distinction of being the first people to win a title at a WrestleMania by winning the Tag Titles at WrestleMania 1.
Fred Blassie managed him.
He won the gimmick battle royal at WrestleMania 17, which surprised many people.
He's a master of the Iranian Clubs, which are 75 pounds each and he could twirl them around like toothpicks.
His daughter was murdered in May of 2003.
