The Resume

    (circa 1507-1580)
    Born in Plasencia, Spain
    Conquistador
Participated in the conquest of Chile and the founding of Santiago

Why she might be annoying:

She participated in the conquest of Chile because she was the mistress of the leader of the military campaign, Pedro de Valdivia.
During an attack on Santiago by natives (September 11, 1541), she suggested killing seven caziques being held hostage and throwing their heads to the Indians to demoralize them.
She reportedly decapitated the first of the captives herself.
    She owned enslaved natives.

Why she might not be annoying:

She originally sailed to the New World (1537) to find her husband (who had left Spain to join Pizarro's army) only to find that he had died at sea before reaching Peru.
During the eleven-month march from central Peru to Santiago, she tended the sick and wounded, and found water in the desert.
She twice uncovered plans to usurp Valdivia's command.
Her strategy for demoralizing the native attackers apparently worked as contemporary accounts indicated that the tide of battle turned in favor of the outnumbered Spanish.
She also donned a suit of armor, mounted a horse, and rode out to the front lines to rally the defenders.
