The Resume

    (August 18, 1942- )
Born in Wolverhampton, England, United Kingdom
First person to win £1,000,000 on the British version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (November 20, 2000)
Regular on 'Eggheads,' a game show pitting members of the public against a group of quiz show winners (2003- )

Her million-pound question: 'Which king was married to Eleanor of Aquitaine?'
    Answer: Henry II (B)

Why she might be annoying:

    She is twice divorced.
She spent so much money calling 'Millionaire' to try to qualify that British Telecom contacted her.
She had almost no reaction to winning and admitted, 'I wasn’t a very good contestant for them because I should have burst into tears and screamed. But I couldn’t.'
There were rumors that ITV leaked news of her win to ensure that 'Millionaire' beat the final episode of 'One Foot in the Grave' in the ratings.

Why she might not be annoying:

She said about her decision to try out, 'I noticed the questions weren’t that difficult and the prize money was huge. I wasn’t aiming for the million; I thought £32,000 would be nice.'
She is actually a descendant (through her paternal grandfather) of Eleanor and Henry.
Her win occurred exactly a year after John Carpenter became the first winner of the US version of the show.
She said about the benefits of winning, 'I suppose I felt a bit freer when I went into a clothes shop or a shoe shop. It was a lovely feeling being able to relax.'
