The Resume

    (June 2, 1835-August 20, 1914)
    Born in Riese, Italy
Birth name was Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto
257th Pope of the Catholic Church (1903-1914)

Why he might be annoying:

It took five rounds of voting for him to earn the pontificate, with a controversial veto by Emperor Franz Joseph handing him the papacy.
He was reluctant to become pope.
He fought against indifferentism and relativism.
He was yet another pope who fought against modernizing the church.
    He was stubborn.
He was obsessed with the Virgin Mary, even more so than normal Catholics.
    He fought for daily communion.
He believed the Bible was the literal truth.
He had a network of spies make sure that his decrees against modernism were enforced.
His government broke diplomatic ties with France after they separated church and state.
He never recognized the Italian government and only partially allowed Italian Catholics to vote (as long as the party they were voting for was not socialist).
He banned women from singing in church choirs.
He refused to meet with Vice President Charles Fairbanks and President Theodore Roosevelt because they addressed the Methodists in Rome.
He refused to use his high position to help out his family, some of whom were living in near poverty.

Why he might not be annoying:

He drafted the Code of Canon Law that unified canon law from region to region.
He ended the practice of the pope dining alone.
He supposedly cured a crippled kid and a kid with meningitis.
As Archpriest of Salzano, he expanded the hospital and fought against the cholera plague.
He would hand out candy to children.
Hundreds of schools, seminaries and parishes are named in his honor.
He was canonized, the last pope (as of 2012) to have been so (1954).
He grew up in poverty to become a powerful leader in the church.
