The Resume

    (December 5, 2005-April 18, 2012)
    Aired on the Discovery Channel
    Hosted by comedian Ben Bailey
Premise: Game show where passengers who board a special taxi cab roaming the streets of New York City become contestants of a quiz game giving them a chance to win money
Based on a British game show of the same name

Why Ca$h Cab might be annoying:

Isn't it dangerous to host a game show while driving a New York City cab?
Bailey often greets passengers with a soft, hobo-sounding voice; afterwords, he exclaims that they have boarded the 'cash cab.'
The contestants must not answer three questions incorrectly while on the course of their trip or else they lose all their prize money.
Even if they do not reach their destination or in the event of rainy or snowy weather, contestants are kicked out of the taxi once they lose their money!
Bailey often makes funny sounds and weird catchphrases (a la Chris Berman).
One of their 'lifelines' is asking people on the street for help with a question, which often yields in incorrect or no answers.
There was controversy in which one group of riders claimed the cab did not carry any cash for liability reasons and they were mailed a check a short while after their appearances.
They also claimed that the passengers and prize money were determined beforehand.
The prize money is not as high as 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.'
The show's title is stylized with a dollar sign substituting for the 's.'

Why Ca$h Cab might not be annoying:

At least for once, there is a taxi driver that is willing to pay YOU money rather than asking for it.
The cab itself is decorated inside with flashing lights.
In later seasons the prize money increased.
If contestants reach their destination without three strikes, they have an opportunity to double their earnings by answering a 'video bonus.'
In the event the cab stops at a red light, Bailey gives the contestants a chance to increase their earnings by listing items for a particular question usually in thirty seconds.
In season four, passengers were able to 'double ride' their money, resulting in one contestant earning $6,200 (2009).
A special celebrity edition of the show featuring actor Thomas Haden Church and news reporter Harry Smith aired.
It is essentially 'Millionaire' on wheels.
The show won three consecutive Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Game Show.
