Cultist

The Resume

    (May 24, 1952- )
    Born in California
    Alias was Clem Tufts
    Nickname was Scramblehead
Member of the Manson Family (joined Spring of 1968)
Accused along with Charlie Manson and Charles 'Tex' Watson of the 1969 murder of ranch hand Donald 'Shorty' Shea
Convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1971
Sentence reduced to life imprisonment by Judge James Kolts (December 23, 1971)
Released from prison November 18, 1985

Why he might be annoying:

Some Family members thought he was retarded, others felt he was just 'playing dumb' - in either case, the name Scramblehead was given him becuase he 'wasn't all there.'
He took Dennis Wilson's Ferrari out for a joyride in 1969 and totaled it.
In 1969, he exposed his penis to a group of school children and was sentenced to 90 days in a state mental hospital, but walked out of the facility after two days and rejoined the Family.
He received the death penalty while Manson and Watson were given life sentences.
In reducing his sentence to life imprisonment, Judge Kolts stated that 'Grogan was too stupid and too hopped on drugs to decide anything on his own' and that it was Manson 'who decided who lived or died.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He, Manson, Susan Atkins and Linda Kasabian drove to Venice Beach on August 10, 1969 (the night of the LaBianca murders), to kill actor Saladin Nader, but Kasabian purposely led the group to the wrong address and the murder plan was aborted.
Once he was in prison and free of drugs, he started to feel genuine remorse for his and the Family's actions.
In 1977, he agreed to draw a map for authorities on where to locate Shorty Shea's remains, giving relatives closure.
After 16 years in prison, he was paroled, becoming the first (and quite possibly only) Manson Family member to be released from prison after a murder conviction.
