Outlaw

The Resume

    Dwayne Marion Stafford
Resident of Goose Creek, South Carolina
25-year old Charleston County Detention Center (former) inmate
Interred in the County jail on first-degree assault and strong arm robbery charges (Jan. 2015)
Released from jail after targeting Charleston shooter, and fellow inmate, Dylann Roof for a physical assault in the center's bathroom (Aug. 4, 2016)
Release was attributed to at least one Donation page set up by 'fans' who posted his $100,000 jail bail within 24 hours of the attack

Why he might be annoying:

He has drawn inevitable comparisons to Chris Scarver.
He cited Charlamagne Tha God as part of his rationale for attacking Roof.
The fundraising effort to post his jail bond resulted in several online scam-campaigns.
Many praised him as a hero and advocated his release without even concerning themselves with what he was in jail for in the first place.
Even fewer seemed to find it troubling that an inmate could so easily escape his cell and make his way to a cordoned off area without any real difficulty.
He has been arrested on more than a dozen misdemeanor charges since 2012.
He is out on bond, but still faces assault and robbery charges, in addition to the charge of deliberately giving false information to a police officer.
The details about how the assault actually went down are sketchy (they were en route to the shower room when the attack happened, but the two guards were also out of the room when the fight started - coincidentally as Stafford was able to make his way out of his cell, downstairs, and into the shower room...?)

Why he might not be annoying:

He has the quintessential 'movie star-supermodel' name.
The Black Collective news outlet (which secured his first interview) reported that he had been 'incarcerated for 571 days for a crime he didn't commit.'
He was one of the first people to speak with Dylann when he arrived at the correctional facility.
He had repeatedly conversed with Roof, through the cell door, with the intention of better understanding him.
He recounted that Roof attempted to feign remorse for his actions at the Emmanuel Church (he reportedly thought 'this motherfucker thinks I'm stupid').
Guards allegedly found him and Roof alone, with Dylann cowering in a fetal position.
The injuries he left Roof with (to his face and body) were minor enough that he opted not to press charges.
That being said, its hard to believe a judge in America would throw the book at him given the character of person he attacked (sorry - no sympathy...)
His fan-generated jail release has been compared to the case of 'Hot Felon' Jeremy Meeks, but at least he did something deserving other than 'look good.'
