The Resume

    (September 27, 1949-February 24, 2020)
    Born in Tønsberg, Norway
Member of the progressive rock band Popul Ace and the musical comedy group Prima Vera
Solo albums included ‘En dags pause’ (‘One Day’s Break,’ 1979), ‘Mentalkrem’ (“Mental Cream,’ 1980), and ‘Kloven uten scene’ (‘Clown Without a Stage,’ 1988)
Represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest three times (1978,1982-83)

Why he might be annoying:

His given name was ‘Jan,’ but he added a silent h to it.
He turned down an offer from Genesis to become their lead singer after Peter Gabriel’s departure.
His ‘Mil etter mil’ (‘Mile After Mile’) became the first Eurovision entry to earn zero points under the revised voting system (1978).

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite its rejection at Eurovision, ‘Mil etter mil’ became a massive hit in Norway, topping the singles chart for five weeks and staying in the top ten for nineteen weeks.
As a member of Prima Vera, he recorded a mock-Russian parody of ‘Mil etter mil’ that also became a hit, making him perhaps the only artist to be successful with straight and novelty versions of the same song at the same time.
He did considerably better in his other two Eurovision appearances, finishing a respectable 9th in 1983.
He was named a Knight First Class of the Order of St. Olav (2011)
