Monarch

The Resume

    (May 23, 1923-January 29, 1982)
Born in Gangtok, Sikkim (now part of India)
Last Chogyal (King) of Sikkim (1963-75)
Deposed when a referendum abolished the monarchy (April 14, 1975)
Followed by India annexing Sikkim (May 16, 1975)

Why he might be annoying:

He had his marriage to Hope Cooke delayed to 1963 and his coronation delayed to 1965, both on the advice of astrologers looking for auspicious dates. (His marriage ended in divorce, he was overthrown, and his country lost its independence. Thank goodness he waited for those auspicious dates, or it could have been even worse.)
His attempts to assert greater autonomy for Sikkim backfired, leading India to occupy the country (1973) and eventually annex it.
He tried to commit suicide by overdosing on barbiturates (1976).

Why he might not be annoying:

He had to abandon his plans to study science at Cambridge when his older brother, the Crown Prince, died in a plane crash, making him heir to the throne (1941).
He launched a modernization project that built hospitals, schools, and roads.
His oldest son, Crown Prince Tenzig Namgyal, died in a car crash (1978).
