Politician

The Resume

    (September 3, 1947- )
    Born in Dallas, Texas
Birth name was Ray Michael Huffington, Jr.
    Congressional Representative from California's 22nd District (1993-95)
    Married to Arianna Huffington (1986-97)
Served on the board of directors of It's My Party, Too, a group of moderate Republicans

Why he might be annoying:

He spent a then-record $5.4 million to win his seat in the House of Representatives.
He left the House after one term to run for the US Senate, setting another record by spending $28 million in his loss to Diane Feinstein.
'Vanity Fair' described him as 'a man of no apparent convictions, except one: that he deserves to be President of the United States.'
A Republican activist said, 'Huffington has never stood for anything. I've never seen a position paper, a press conference, even an ad where he's said anything.'
He ordered staffers to shred the office copy of 'The Congressional Record' because it was 'nobody's business' how he voted.
Several male staffers complained about unwanted hugs.
He waited to come out as bisexual until his political career was over (1998).
During the California governor recall election, he endorsed Arnold Schwarzenegger over his ex-wife (2003).
He ended up blogging for his ex-wife's company, the Huffington Post.

Why he might not be annoying:

At Stanford, he was on the varsity crew team and was co-president of his senior class.
He first became interested in politics as an intern for then-Congressman George H.W. Bush (1968).
Although he converted to Greek Orthodox when he married Arianna, he apparently drew the line at joining the John-Roger cult.
He funded an ecumenical institute at Loyola Marymount University to promote dialogue between the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches.
During his Congressional term, he donated his salary to two children's charities in his district.
He defeated unhinged homophobe William Dannemeyer in the Republican primary for the Senate seat.
He established a summer fellowship program at Stanford for LGBT students.
