Hockey Player

The Resume

    (January 21, 1887-March 27, 1926)
    Born in Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada
Birth name is Joseph Georges Gonzague Vezina
Goalie for the Montreal Canadiens (1910–1925)
Namesake for the National Hockey League trophy awarded to the goalie of the team against whom the fewest goals are scored
Original Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (1945)

Why he might be annoying:

    VEZ-in-NAH.
During his career, the Habs had no other netminders!
    He was a pipe smoker.
    He kept mainly to himself.
As of 1981, his namesake trophy would be awarded based on the consensus of NHL general managers.

Why he might not be annoying:

When not busy with hockey, he operated a (leather) tannery.
He was nicknamed the Chicoutimi Cucumber for his ability to stay cool under fire and the Silent Habitant (‘Hab’) for his introspective demeanor.
Amazingly, his best goals-against averages were in his final two full seasons (a combined total of 1.89 GAA).
As the first pro athlete from the area, his home city named their hockey arena in his honor (1965).
