    Appeared on Broadway in 'This Is the Army' (1942), 'Born Yesterday' (1946), 'At War with the Army' (1949), 'Step on a Crack' (1962) and 'Mornings at Seven' (1980)
    Married to Bette Davis (1950-60)

Why he might be annoying:

    He claimed he never worked at acting, saying 'I have no drive really. I just like to get by and have fun.'
    He said of his marriage to co-star Bette Davis, 'We fell in love in the movies.... As the demands of real life set in, we realized the premise was wrong.'
    He and Davis named their adopted daughter Margo after the character she played in 'All About Eve.'
    He ran unsuccessfully for Congress as a Representative for Maine (1968).
