Sports Executive

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He wanted to be an enforcerer, after he watched his hometown team get roughed up and didn't do anything to fight back.
He averaged 100+ penalty minutes in a season.
He earned notoriety in the 1972 Summit Series, when he ordered Bobby Clarke to slash the ankle of Soviet forward Valeri Kharlamov.
He justified his actions by saying he did it because Kharlamov was 'killing' the Canadian team on the ice.
He rebranded the Rangers uniform from their traditional kit.
He opted to reuse that uniform when he took over the Jets.
He was the architect of the Jets team that posted a 9-57-14 record during the 1980-81 season, which some hockey pundits believed he tanked the season to secure the first overall pick that year.
He made some rather questionable player moves during his career as an NHL executive (hey, we at least know where his son learned it from).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a stickboy for the WHL's Vancouver Canucks.
He was recalled to the Canadiens to serve as a bodyguard linemate for Jean Beliveau.
He earned five Stanley Cup rings as a member of the Canadiens, with four of them coming in the 1960's.
He was successfully able to sign both Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson away from the World Hockey Association, in one of his last signature moves with the Rangers.
He served as the Jets general manager during their last two seasons in the WHA and their first nine seasons in the NHL.
He drafted Dale Hawerchuk with the first overall pick in 1981.
He was involved in horse racing during his years following his hockey career.
He is the father of former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson, Jr..
