The Resume

    (October 18, 1911-January 22, 1945)
    Born in Tunis, Tunisia
    French Flyweight Champion (1930)
    World Flyweight Champion (1931-32)
Retired (December, 1938) with a record of 92 wins (28 by KO), 26 losses, and 15 draws
Arrested in Paris, transported to Auschwitz (1943)
Murdered on a death march from Monowitz to Gleiwitz (January 22, 1945)

Why he might be annoying:

He squandered his career earnings on a lavish lifestyle.
His first staged fight appearance only happened because his brother, also a boxer, injured his hand and could not go on.
Against the better advice of his trainer Joe Guez, he embarked on a passionate affair with actress Mireille Balin.
He neglected his training and put on weight, causing him to lose his title to Britain's Jackie Brown the next year.
When he lost his title, Mireille conveniently lost interest in him and the relationship fizzled out. Around this time, he began to develop a serious drinking problem.
He made an effort at a comeback by moving to the Bantamweight class, but the attempts to secure another title were futile and by 1940 he was essentially washed up.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the youngest of four siblings.
He grew up poor in the Jewish quarter of Tunis.
He was the youngest world champion in boxing history.
He was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (1986).
He bested the American Frankie Genaro by knocking him out in the second round, dethroning him as the 1931 World Flyweight Champion.
He was slow to recognize the growing threat of Nazism in Europe, and his last match was in Berlin, a month after Kristallnacht.
He was forced to participate in rigged boxing matches for the Nazis’ entertainment in the camps (he reportedly won many - if not all - of the matches).
He was shot to death during a death march as he tried to share bread with other starving prisoners against orders.
Brahim Asloum, himself a professional boxer and Gold medalist, received critical acclaim playing him in the 2013 biopic, 'Victor Young Perez.'
He lived by the mantra 'Man isn't born to live for himself. Human beings we created to help others. We live in order to help.'
