    Born in Bombay, India
    Birth name was Terence Hanbury White
    Best known for his 'The Once and Future King' series of Arthurian novels: 'The Sword in the Stone' (1938), 'The Queen of Air and Darkness' (1939), 'The Ill-Made Knight' (1940), 'The Candle in the Wind' (1958) and 'The Book of Merlyn' (published posthumously, 1977)
    Also wrote 'First Lesson' (1932), 'England Have My Bones' (1936), 'Mistress Masham's Response' (1946), 'The Elephant and the Kangaroo' (1947), 'The Goshawk' (1951) and 'The Master' (1957)
    While at Cambridge, he wrote a thesis on Sir Thomas Mallory's 'Le Morte d'Arthur' without actually reading it.
    He would isolate himself from human society for extended periods.
    According to his biographer, he was a closeted homosexual and a sadomasochist.
    He became a heavy drinker late in his life.
    When two people knocked at his door and announced 'We're Jehovah's Witnesses,' he replied by stroking his long, white beard and saying, 'And I'm Jehovah. How are we doing?'
    'The Once and Future King' inspired the Lerner and Loewe musical 'Camelot.'
    Time magazine described 'The Sword in the Stone' as 'without question the best book for a twelve-year-old ever written, and a haunting delight for readers of any age.'
    When an interviewer asked Neil Gaiman if J.K. Rowling had based Harry Potter on his character Timothy Hunter, he replied 'I thought we were both just stealing from T.H. White -- very straightforward.'
