Why he might be annoying:

    He was a three-time divorcee.
Despite a decades long career in film and on television, he’s now almost exclusively remembered for his one-minute stint in Psycho, as the suspicious cop who towers over Janet Leigh and briefly tails her – causing her to trade her car in.
He inexplicably retired from film and television work in the early 1970’s, without any explanation given.
It was initially reported that he had been smoking in bed, and died in a subsequent fire.
An autopsy later determined he had died of a heart attack, and the fire was subsequent to his death.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the 3rd Marine Parachute Battalion in the Pacific during World War II.
He had bit part roles in ‘To Hell and Back’ and ‘A Star is Born.’
He was a regular presence on television shows from the late 1950’s and throughout the 1960’s, to the point where viewers would recognize him even without knowing his name.
His authoritative voice and stern demeanor often got him cast as the town lawman on popular westerns shows and films.
He had a memorable guest appearance as a greedy bounty hunter who clashes with Josh Randall (Steve McQueen) on 'Wanted: Dead or Alive.'
