The Resume

    (March 26, 1956- )
    Born in Antwerp, Belgium
Birth name is Eugene Joanna Alfons Bervoets
Portrayed Rex Hofman in the original version of ‘The Vanishing’ (1988)
Select filmography includes 'Crazy Love (1987),' 'Anchoress (1993),' 'The Flying Dutchman (1995),' 'Shades (1999),' 'The Alzheimer Case (2003),' 'Wolf (2010),' and 'Paradise Trips (2015)’

Why he might be annoying:

    He is divorced.
He would have been perfect to portray Ayrton Senna.
With over 100 projects in film, television and in theatre, he’s only known outside of Belgium for getting buried alive in the final scene of ‘The Vanishing.’
He had trouble getting along with ‘Vanishing’ co-star Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu - who played Raymond the Serial Killer - and the two got into a physical fight before one of their scenes (although Donnadieu later admitted to picking the fight in the first place so Rex’s rage would appear genuine).

Why he might not be annoying:

He has performed in more than 70 films since 1979.
He is one of the most popular film and television actors in his native Belgium.
He won the Ensor for Best Actor for his portrayal of bus driver Mario Dockers in ‘Paradise Trips.’
Critics and audiences overwhelmingly prefer his performance in the original ‘Vanishing’ to Kiefer Sutherland’s in the 1993 remake (Then again, for the most part critics and audiences prefer everything about the original ‘Vanishing' over the remake).
For the terrifying climax of ‘The Vanishing,’ he was genuinely locked up in a real coffin buried under loads of sand bags, so that he couldn't escape and so that his death struggle would seem convincing.
His scene at the end of ‘The Vanishing’ has turned up on several ‘scariest moment’ lists, including Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments and Channel 4’s 100 Scary Moments.
