Why he might be annoying:

    He consistently has some of the worst hairdos in the sport.
    He once drove a car sponsored by McDonald's, and may have contributed to the increase in child obesity.
    He lost the NASCAR Winston Cup Championship in 1985 after blowing a big lead in the points to Darrell Waltrip
    He once cussed out his crew for giving him an uncompetitive race car.
    He gave Matt Kenseth the opportunity to make his first NASCAR Winston Cup start.
    In 2006, he was fired by Team Red Bull when he failed to qualify for their first race.
    When he first signed with Evernham Motorsports, he forced his former team, Melling Racing, to let him race with the number 9.
    He drove Fords for his entire career before racing Dodges for Evernham Motorsports.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was forced out of his Evernham Motorsports ride because he was too old.
    He won the Most Popular Driver award nine years in a row.
    After winning the award for the sixteenth time, he asked that his name be permanently taken off the ballot.
    He won NASCAR's first 'Winston Million' bonus in 1985.
    He holds the track records at Daytona and Talladega, clocking speeds over 210 mph both times.
    He has never let fame go to his head.
    He came from almost 5 miles behind to win a 1985 race in Talledega without the aid of a caution flag.
    He was the first NASCAR driver to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
    He raced the number 94 in memory of his late nephew.
