Outlaw

The Resume

Claimed daughter Hannah Milbrandt was terminally ill from Leukemia
Was revealed to have faked daughter’s cancer as a money making scam in 2002
Convicted on grand theft and child endangerment charges (September 2003)

Why she might be annoying:

She had a criminal record for stealing credit cards and passing bad checks.
She told her own daughter that she was going to die from cancer and her daughter believed it.
She convinced her Urbana community that her child was dying and raised an estimated $31,000 in donations for what she claimed was for chemotherapy.
To grant the hoax credibility, she regularly shaved Hannah’s head, made her wear a surgical mask, and even put a bandage on the back of Hannah's head for a fake chemotherapy port.
The bandage is what eventually ended up exposing the lie after a school nurse counseling Hannah removed the bandage to inspect the port only to discover no marks were there at all.
A wheelchair-bound girl on a respirator gave up the recyclable pop tabs that she saved for her own medical bills and donated them to Hannah Milbrandt for her chemotherapy.
When investigators obtained a warrant to search Terri’s home, they found the pop tabs discarded and unused, indicating that she had been uninterested in going through the trouble of turning them in and just preferred cash donations.
Months after the hoax was exposed, she was arrested for forging prescriptions to obtain drugs at a Walmart Pharmacy.
She served six years in prison on child-endangerment charges after her cancer hoax was exposed. She was released from jail in 2010.
Hannah has since opened up about experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts into young adulthood as she has come to terms with the psychological abuse she experienced as a child (she spent a year in foster care when both her parents were in jail).

Why she might not be annoying:

Her husband Robert maintains that he did not know about the scam, and he and Hannah are reportedly close.
She was lucky that her deception was discovered before her actions any further messed her daughter up to the point of being dangerous to herself or others (see: the case of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard).
Her case is cat nip for True Crime content creators on YouTube.
