    Played professional soccer for Chemnitz (1995-1997), FC Kaiserslautern (1997-1999), Bayer Leverkusen (1999-2002,2010-2012), Bayern Munich (2002-2006), and Chelsea (2006-2010)
    Played for the German National team from 1999-2010
    Represented Germany at 2002 and 2006 World Cups
    Captain of German national team during the 2006 World Cup

Why he might be annoying:

    He's worn the #13 shirt for almost every team he's played for.
    He married his longtime girlfriend in 2008 after fathering three kids.
    He divorced his wife in 2012.
    He committed a yellow-card foul in the 2002 World Cup semifinal which caused him to miss the final against Brazil (Germany lost 2-0).
    He became injury-plagued late in his career which included him missing out on the 2010 World Cup which he was team captain.
    His ESPN game debates with Alexi Lalas make them both look like soccer's Siskel and Ebert.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He scored game-winning goals for Germany at the 2002 World Cup in both the quarterfinal and the semifinal.
    He was born in the former East Germany and was 13 when the Berlin Wall fell.
    He had excellent play with Bundesliga teams and Premier League teams.
    He was to be captain of Germany's 2010 World Cup team but injury sidelined him and he was replaced by Philipp Lahm.
    He was a studio analyst for ESPN during Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup.
