Music Producer

The Resume

    (May 8, 1935-August 16, 2023)
    Born in Bronx, New York
Co-founder of Carnival Records, later A&M (with Herb Alpert, 1962–1994), Rondor Music, Inc. (mid-1970s), and Almo Sounds (with Alpert, 1994–1999)
1999 Hollywood Walk of Fame inductee
2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement co-inductee

Why he might be annoying:

Jerome Sheldon Moss (not an unusual middle name in his day).
He couldn’t possibly have predicted that the previous name for their music label (he was the ‘M’ of A&M) was already taken.
In his artistshousemusic.org interview, he was confused as to whether ‘uncorruptible’ or ‘incorruptible’ was the correct word to describe his ‘1+1=9’ partnership with Alpert.
He was good friends with Robert Wagner.

Why he might not be annoying:

Like Alpert, he’s worked both sides of the music industry.
Like many ‘that went to college on the East Coast,’ he worked as a waiter at various resorts to supplement himself.
His first marriage lasted nearly two decades; his second, more than three decades.
As a horse breeder, he scored the largest first-place purse in Kentucky Derby history with the very first horse he entered (Giacomo, 2005).
He succeeded legendary producer Alan Landsburg on the California Horse Racing Board (2004).
Alpert was the inaugural act at the opening of his namesake theater (2013, part of the Capshaw-Spielberg Center for Arts and Educational Justice).
