The Resume

    (October 27, 1915-September 28, 1974)
    Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada
    Birth name was Herschel Saltzman
With Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli, produced nine James Bond films, from 'Dr. No' (1962) to 'The Man with the Golden Gun' (1974)
Also produced the films 'Look Back in Anger' (1959), 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning' (1960), 'The Entertainer' (1960), 'The Ipcress File' (1965), 'Chimes at Midnight' (1966), 'The Battle of Britain' (1970), and 'Nijinsky' (1980)

Why he might be annoying:

He ran away from home and joined a traveling circus.
His constant complaints when eating in restaurants prompted Broccoli to quip, 'If he was at the Last Supper, he would have sent that back, too.'
Director Anthony Mann said about his move from British 'kitchen sink' dramas to the Bond films, 'Harry used to make great pictures, Now he makes very successful ones. After all, you can't be an artist all your life.'
He took control of Technicolor in a proxy fight (1970), but lost control of the company when he had to sell off his stock to repay a loan he had defaulted on.
After further financial difficulties, he sold his half of the Bond franchise to United Artists (1975).

Why he might not be annoying:

He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.
After receiving a medical discharge, he joined the psychological warfare division of the OSS (the WWII predecessor of the CIA).
He helped establish the film division of UNESCO (1945).
Their shared background in World War II military intelligence may have persuaded Ian Fleming to sell the rights to the James Bond novels to Saltzman.
'The Guardian' wrote, 'Without him, British cinema of the 1960s -- and ever after -- would look decidedly different, and be a lot less fun.'
