    It changed its format from airing movies uncut to airing them with commercials.
    Even when they aired the movies uncut, they often used the shorten TV format of the movie.
    They changed their schedule to include movies that were not American classics.
    They initially marketed the network to those who were nostalgic for simpler times.

Why American Movie Classics might not be annoying:

    They reached massive audiences by being the first-ever commercial free cable television network to air solely classic films.
    In their beginning they drew favorable comparisons to PBS.
    They do not heavily censor movies like most cable channels do.
    They showed Marx Brothers movie marathons.
    They deemed 'Tommy Boy (1995)' an American classic.
