    He left the Mets on sour terms, so much that he refused to attend the 30th anniversary reunion of the World Series championship team.
    He is twice divorced.
    He played on three different teams in his last three major league seasons.
    He was close friends with Marge Schott, so much so that she named him the handpicked successor to Davey Johnson, a year before the latter was fired.
    He fined himself $250 after he forgot how many outs were in a half-inning (1997).
    He had a surly temper and practically wore out his welcome on every team he played on.
    He started a bench clearing brawl in a game against the Reds, that led to multiple ejections and suspensions between the two teams (1986).

    He scored the series winning run for the Mets in the 1986 World Series.
    He was a serviceable infielder on the corners during his prime years.
    He was the first player in Reds history to record two home runs in a single inning.
